A Light &Sound Programme _ A walking along the way of St. Thomas
Marthoma Smruthi Tharangam depicts the vision and mission of St.Thomas, the great apostle of India, to the innumerable pilgrims who throng to Marthoma Pontifical Shrine, Azhicode-Kodungallur, for faith experience and spiritual solace. The cherished objectives of this Smruthi Tharangam is to invoke all to the unique Christ-experience of St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles. Etymologically, Marthoma Smruthi Tharangam is derived from Sanskrit language which literally means the creation of waves of memories regarding St.Thomas. It is a glorious glimpse and memorial of the heroic life and gallant and chivalrous activities of St. Thomas, the great apostle of India. It is an epitome of the deep faith experience of the apostle as is remembered and treasured by his spiritually begotten sons and daughters of India. It is a celebration and commemoration of his glorious historical entrance and solemn second landing at Azhicode – Kodiungallur on A.D.52 and 1953 respectively. It echoes the invaluable faith profession of the great disciple in the risen Lord – My Lord and My God along with his heroic martyrdom in Mylapore for the sake of his own church which he formed by his challenging apostolate here in India. These memories which resonate, reverberate and radiate in the hearts of millions of St.Thomas Christians in India is realized and re-lived in Marthoma Smruthi Tharangam. This memorial presentation of the vision and the mission of Marthoma is artistically depicted in a 3500 square feet large aesthetically designed mansion built in Indo-Persian style. The multi-colour image works and sculpture designs will transcend the heart and mind of the pilgrims to the major episode in the life of St.Thomas which is systematically and scientifically arranged in four different levels. In an enjoyable and enigmatic way one moves from the scene of Jesus commissioning the disciples to the different parts of the world, to the stories of the great entrance of St.Thomas to India, his apostolic activities in different part of Kerala, his mission and martyrdom at Mylaapore in Tamil Nadu, the preservation and enshrining of his mortal remains at Edessa and Ortona and the enthronement of his holy relic at the Marthoma Pontifical Shrine in Dec.6,1953. With the aids of modern computer technologies and audio-visual theatrical effects an enlightening veneration will be invoked in the inner depths of the pilgrims towards St. Thomas, their Father-in-faith. This 40 minutes programme with a seating capacity of about 80 persons is expected to deepen our Christian commitment as shared by our apostle. It also helps to refresh our heart and mind by the synchronized musical experiences and sophisticated visual effects. Thus Marthoma Smruthi Tharangam is a unique venture which evokes the history and heritage of the authentic faith-experience of St. Thomas, the apostle, in the devout pilgrims and inspires them to be the challenging witnesses of Christian values in this modern world. The inspiring leadership to realize this unique Light & Sound Programme is carried out by the present Rector, Fr.J.B. Puthoor C.M.I. |
